Best known for her affiliation with Ye, YesJulz stepped into the spotlight last week to perform her first song.
During Miami’s annual Art Basel event, the multi-hyphenate media contractor added singer-songwriter to her resume as she overcame her fears and performed a song she had written and produced for the first time at the private anOnlyChild event. On Wednesday (Dec. 11), Julz shared a video of the performance on social media with a “thank you” caption.
On X, with the video, she tweeted: “I finally got over my fear of singing in front of people & actually performed a song I wrote and produced for the first time ever at Art Basel last week. Very proud of how far I’ve come to get here.”
With words of encouragement, she would thank the organizers for the opportunity and reveal her next performance in a lengthy caption on Instagram. “It’s never too late to do that one thing you’ve always wanted to do. Just get out of your own way & believe in yourself. Thank you @maxwellosborne & the @anonlychild team for allowing me the opportunity to perform my song at your beautiful event. Thank you @jsantiagomusic_ & @worldfamousrenz for pushing me to get past my fears and use my voice again. Still shaking off the nerves a bit but it’s only up from here. Next performance is January 8th at one of my favorite places in Miami & this time it will be a full set. Announcement coming. Big thank you to @johannaortega677 for all the voice and piano lessons growing up – sorry it took me this long to put them to use, I love you so much!”
Naturally, YesJulz’s first performance received mixed reviews across social media. Hip-Hop journalist and recording artist Rob Markman commented, “Glad you doing it.” “About time!!! you did it,” commented personality Olivia Pierson, while Sophie Pierson wrote, “Amazing.”
Jabari, the founder of the popular touring event R&B Only, encouraged the new singer with the comment, “Go head!!!”
