YNW Melly’s manager, 100KTrack, shared an update with No Jumper last week about the Florida rap star, real name Jamell Demons, spirits as he awaits trial in 2026 and 2027.
The capital murder retrial for YNW Melly has been scheduled for January 2027 in Broward County Circuit Court, extending a prosecution that has kept the artist jailed since his February 2019 surrender to authorities, according to court records. Melly is accused of the alleged murders of his two best friends and recording artists Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams.
The retrial will take place at the Broward County Courthouse in Fort Lauderdale before Judge Martin S. Fien. In a separate matter, Demons is also slated to face a jury trial on witness tampering charges beginning Jan. 21, 2026, also in Broward County.
Melly has remained in custody at the Broward County Jail for nearly seven years while litigating pretrial motions and appellate issues. On Oct. 15, 2025, Florida’s Fourth District Court of Appeal upheld rulings by Judge John Murphy III denying Motions to Suppress Nos. 1 through 13, clearing the way for the retrial to proceed.
Despite the lengthy delay, Demons’ manager, 100KTrack, said the defense is confident following a recent change in legal strategy. Speaking in a Dec. 10, 2025 interview with No Jumper, 100KTrack said Demons replaced prior counsel with Drew Findling, a high-profile defense attorney.

“Like right now, he just swapped out counsel to Drew Findling,” 100KTrack said. “So, you know, he got really one of the best — if not the best — lawyer.”
100KTrack said the defense supported the trial delay to allow Findling time to master the case. “He definitely needed some more time,” 100KTrack said, adding that the team is now “100% confident” in the defense strategy.
According to 100KTrack, the new counsel has already secured favorable rulings. “He won a big motion,” Williams said. “Now, a lot of the texts and calls were thrown out. So we’re about to see how big of a change that does.”
Track also addressed the toll of prolonged incarceration, noting Demons’ maturity since his arrest. “He’s in great spirits,” Melly’s manager said. “Older. He’s 26. Been in this situation for a lot more.”
Reflecting on the case’s duration, 100KTrack said, “This is the most confident and comfortable we’ve ever felt because of the counsel that we have.”
100KTrack reaffirmed his loyalty to Demons, rejecting any suggestion he would cooperate against him. “Nah, for sure, and I never will,” he said. “Melly loved those guys. It’s unfortunate what happened.”
YNW Melly has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
