Lil Durk‘s arrest was the subject of 50 Cent‘s latest interview, in which he revealed that he advised the Chicago rapper to be aware of those around him.
When asked if he spoke to Durk about his crew in the past, 50 said: “We did the song for ‘Power,’ the Chicago version. I told him, ‘Yo, this is your team? Keep an eye on them.”
50 Cent’s concerns deepened when Durk recounted his home invasion experience. “He told me, ‘Someone came right up to my house. How did they get my address? I don’t give my address to anyone,’” 50 Cent recalled.
Drawing on his own experiences, 50 Cent compared the challenges of fame and the following scrutiny. “I’ve been in the middle of everything myself. You can’t just sit back. You need to know where everyone is, what they’re doing, and why they’re not locked up if things get dicey,” he joked, hinting at the need for constant vigilance.
The news of Durk’s arrest by U.S. Marshals in Broward County, Florida, on October 24 sent shockwaves through the hip-hop community. Authorities allege that Durk, a Grammy-nominated artist, booked a private jet to Italy and arranged additional flights to Dubai and Switzerland, actions they interpreted as attempts to flee. Just hours before his arrest, five affiliates of Only The Family (OTF)—Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston—were indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.
In a tumultuous year for Lil Durk, the loyalty and influence of his extended OTF family have drawn as much attention as his musical achievements.
For 50 Cent, a veteran who has navigated his own career amid controversy, the situation underscores the persistent dangers that fame and loyalty can bring. His counsel to Durk resonates as both a warning and a reflection of his own hard-learned lessons in an industry where trust is as fragile as success itself.
