JAY-Z’s Team Roc is launching a true crime podcast, Corruption Uncovered, to spotlight systemic corruption in Kansas City.

The podcast, hosted by journalist Josie Duffy Rice, delves into allegations of misconduct within the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department (KCKPD), focusing on former detective Roger Golubski’s troubling case.

Golubski faced federal charges for allegedly extorting and sexually assaulting Black women and teenagers. However, on the eve of his trial on December 1, he was found dead in what authorities described as an apparent suicide. His death has brought the trial to a sudden and controversial end, leaving questions of justice unanswered.

Corruption Uncovered examines this case and the broader patterns of corruption within the KCKPD. Featuring interviews with survivors, their families, community advocates, attorneys, and activists, the podcast seeks to amplify the voices of those most impacted by decades of abuse. In the trailer released earlier this week, one survivor recounts a chilling encounter with Golubski: “I said, ‘I’m gonna call the police.’ He said, ‘I am the police.’”

The series asks a crucial question: What does justice look like after decades of unchecked corruption in law enforcement? The podcast, debuting December 6, aims to explore the systemic failures that allowed such abuses to persist and examine whether cases like U.S. v. Roger Golubski can bring meaningful change.

Team Roc’s push for accountability doesn’t stop there. Last month, the organization, in partnership with the Midwest Innocence Project, filed a lawsuit against Kansas City officials. The suit demands access to police misconduct records that the city has reportedly withheld. Team Roc believes these documents could reveal a long history of abuse and cover-ups within the department.

JAY-Z and Team Roc’s ongoing efforts underscore their commitment to justice and transparency in a system plagued by corruption. By amplifying these stories, Corruption Uncovered not only seeks accountability but also sheds light on the urgent need for reform in Kansas City’s criminal justice system.
