Tyrese Gibson is at the center of a legal case in Atlanta after his Cane Corso dogs were involved in a violent incident that left a neighbor’s pet dead. Fulton County authorities have confirmed that the actor and singer has been charged with animal cruelty. They also stated that a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest has been issued.
The incident happened on September 18th in a Buckhead neighborhood. According to police reports, four of Gibson’s Cane Corsos ran loose. They attacked a 5-year-old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel named Henry. The spaniel’s owner said the dog was let outside and was found dead only minutes later. CBS News reported that officers were called shortly after and animal control had to assist a woman who was blocked from her car by Gibson’s dogs.
This is not the first time authorities had concerns about the animals. Reports indicate that in the week leading up to Henry’s death, the Cane Corsos were spotted running loose at least five different times. Fulton County Police Animal Services Captain Nicole Dwyer said the warrant stems from negligence. Officers have already tried to make an arrest attempt at Gibson’s home this month
Tyrese and his legal team say they are addressing the matter directly. His attorney, Gabe Banks of Banks Weaver Law Firm, issued a statement on Tuesday. “Mr. Tyrese Gibson extends his deepest condolences to the family who lost their beloved dog to this tragic incident that occurred while Mr. Gibson was away from his home. Upon learning of this unfortunate accident, Mr. Gibson immediately made the difficult decision to rehome his dogs to a safe and loving environment.”
Banks added, “Concerning the misdemeanor warrant, Mr. Gibson is cooperating fully with authorities to address and resolve this matter responsibly. Mr. Gibson asks for privacy and understanding as this matter is handled through the appropriate legal channels. He remains committed to the safety of his community. He is also dedicated to the well-being of all animals.
