Marvel superhero Luke Cage is arguably actor Mike Colter’s biggest role ever, and it looks like he may be making a return to Harlem, according to a conversation with Shawn Stockman.
The Netflix series debuted in 2016 and quickly became a cornerstone of the streamer’s street-level Marvel lineup, alongside Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist. Colter led the show for two seasons before it culminated in the crossover miniseries The Defenders.
Netflix’s Marvel era ended in 2019, when the platform canceled all of its superhero series. By 2022, those titles were removed entirely, leaving the future of the characters unresolved. For several years, Colter publicly downplayed the likelihood of reprising the role, even as fan demand remained steady.
That conversation shifted after Disney+ revived Daredevil with Daredevil: Born Again, which premiered in 2025. The series brought back Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Jon Bernthal, formally folding the Netflix-era characters into Marvel Cinematic Universe canon. The revival prompted renewed speculation about Luke Cage’s future.
During a recent appearance on Shawn Stockman’s On That Note, Colter addressed the rumors directly.

“I’ve had conversations,” he said. “I would tell people no, because when it wrapped, I loved playing Luke Cage, but I also love acting. I love doing different things.”
Colter explained that his initial reluctance stemmed from a desire to explore new creative territory. Over time, that perspective evolved.
He said he remains grateful for the fan support surrounding the character and admitted he may have “unfinished business” as Luke Cage. Colter also confirmed he has spoken with series creator and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker about possible next steps.
With Daredevil back, Colter said the timing feels different. “Bring the Defenders back. Bring Jessica back,” he said, referencing Krysten Ritter’s confirmed return in Born Again season two. “We’re in a better position to see this come into fruition faster than we think. We’ll see.”
Fueling speculation further, Colter and Iron Fist actor Finn Jones were recently spotted in New York during filming for the upcoming season. Daredevil: Born Again returns in March 2026, and Colter’s latest comments suggest Luke Cage’s story may not be finished.
