Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the remainder of the NFL season after medical experts diagnosed the star athlete with blood clots in his lungs.

The health update comes as a significant blow to the Eagles’ roster and has prompted an outpouring of support from the sports community and Hurts’ family. The diagnosis was confirmed Monday following additional testing that revealed deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli.

While Hurts is reported to be clinically stable, the severity of the condition requires immediate and prolonged treatment, effectively ending his campaign for the current season. Pamela Hurts, the quarterback’s mother, addressed the situation through a social media post on Monday, urging fans to appreciate their current circumstances.

She reminded her followers that life can change in the “blink of an eye” and asked them to reflect on what they are grateful for as her son begins his recovery process. Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn, provided further clarity on the medical restrictions now facing the 28-year-old signal-caller. Lynn said that Hurts is prohibited from participating in any contact activities, including football, while undergoing treatment.

The agent noted that while Hurts has no significant functional limitations at this time, the risk associated with contact sports and blood clots is too high. The medical journey began last week when the team initially announced on Oct. 15 that Hurts would miss a scheduled game against the Los Angeles Rams due to a superficial clot in his calf.

However, subsequent monitoring revealed the more serious nature of the condition, leading to the current diagnosis of pulmonary emboli. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni spoke to the media on Monday to emphasize that the organization is prioritizing Hurts’ long-term health over team performance. Sirianni said the team cares deeply about the well-being of its players and will defer all recovery timelines to medical experts. “The health of our players is always at the forefront of our minds,” Sirianni said during the press conference.

The coach added that the team’s focus remains on supporting Hurts as he faces several months of treatment and rehabilitation.

The Eagles have not yet announced corresponding roster moves to address the vacancy at the quarterback position.
