Timeless: The Story Behind The Making of Fugees ‘The Score’

25 years ago today, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, and Pras also known as The Fugees came together to create one of the greatest pieces in not only hip hop history, but in all of music .

It was a quarter of a century that this masterpiece, created not in a glamorous studio, but rather in a basement sharing their stories. A group of musicians and producers crammed into a small room and poured their souls into an album that was simply titled, The Score.

The Fugees sat in the studio with producers such as Salaam Remi, John Forté, and more. It became a project with hit singles such as “Fu-Gee-La,” “Ready Or Not,” and the timeless, record breaking single, “Killing Me Softly.”

The Score ended up winning two Grammy Awards for “Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals” for that very track, and the award for Best Rap Album.
