Lil Baby has finally addressed the long-standing speculation regarding his fractured relationship with former collaborator Gunna, confirming that while the two remain at odds, he intends to keep their grievances private.

The comments come as the “Drip Too Hard” artist prepares for the launch of his latest studio album, “Fresh,” which is scheduled for release on Nov. 6. During a recent appearance on The New York Times Popcast, Lil Baby, born Dominique Jones, spoke candidly about the tension that has defined their relationship since the high-profile YSL RICO trial.

The rapper explained that while they are no longer on good terms, he believes it is important to maintain a level of public decorum for the sake of their shared fans and their home city. “Whether I like them or they like me, it’s like we all gonna be on that personal vibe,” Lil Baby said during the interview.

“We can not like each other but we gonna play it cool for y’all, you know what I’m saying? It’s like an unspoken thing.” The rift between the two stars began following Gunna’s release from jail in late 2022 after he took an Alford plea in the gang conspiracy case involving Young Thug. Many in the hip-hop community, including Lil Baby, appeared to distance themselves from Gunna following the legal maneuver.

Lil Baby emphasized that he has no interest in engaging in a public war of words or “clout chasing” through internet drama. Lil Baby noted that both artists hold significant influence in Atlanta and that a public feud would be detrimental to their respective legacies. He said he prefers to handle any standing issues away from the spotlight, stating that if they have a problem, they can handle it in person rather than through social media posts or diss tracks.

“I’d rather have that beef or problem personally because we’re… really like the ones who hold it down for the town,” Lil Baby said. He suggested that trading public shots would ultimately make both performers look bad in the eyes of the public.

While the rapper’s commitment to civility may prevent a public spectacle, it appears to signal the end of their musical partnership. The duo, once celebrated for their chemistry on the 2018 collaborative project “Drip Harder,” are unlikely to record together again.

Lil Baby’s upcoming 17-track album features Future, Young Thug, Rylo Rodriguez, Bally Baby, and Fatt Smaxx.
