Derek Chauvin’s trial for George Floyd’s murder continues.

As reported on USA Today, nine jurors were selected. It has five people who identify as white, one multiracial, two Black, and one Hispanic. Seven are between the ages of 20-30, and the other two are in their 50’s.

A juror was excused after bringing up city leaders approving a $27 million civil settlement in Floyd’s death. Chauvin’s legal team feels this will cause the trial to be “unfair.”

Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill is considering delaying the proceedings. Judge Cahill also ordered the seven jurors selected last week to be brought in and get questions about their exposure to the news.

Chauvin’s third-degree murder charge was reinstated. He’s also charged with manslaughter and second-degree murder. Opening statements are reportedly scheduled no sooner than March 29.
