Our hearts and thoughts go out to the friends and families of Fred The Godson.

We got confirmation that Fred the Godson, 35,  has unfortunately passed away due to complications from COVID-19.

On April 6, the South Bronx rapper announced via Instagram that he was in the hospital after being diagnosed with the coronavirus. In the caption, he wrote, “I’m in here with this Corvus 19 sh*t! Please keep me in ya’ll prayers *prayer emoji* #godisgreat.’”

Fred also suffered from asthma and had issues with his kidneys. It was reported yesterday (April 22) that his kidneys had been failing. His wife, LeeAnn Jemmott asked fans for prayers for her husband’s full recovery earlier in the week but has not spoken out on the passing as of right now.

Throughout Fred’s career, he gained a lot of street credibility and was known for his wordplay and dope bars. He made his breakthrough in 2010 with his Armageddon mixtape. He was on the 2011 XXL Freshman standing next to Kendrick Lamar, Meek Mill, Mac Miller, YG, and more. Despite his incredible skills, he refused to sign to a label. He frequently dropped freestyles and appeared on Funk Flex a few times.

Since news broke that Fred was battling COVID-19, he was showered with an outpour of love from the hip hop community. Brooklyn rapper Fabolous ignited the #ColdSummerChallenge and close friend Axel Leon dropped bars in honor of his friend prior to the passing.

Close friends of Fred The Godson wrote condolences online.  In a long post, Axel wrote:
