As the weather warms up, it’s going to be challenging enforcing people to stay home!
Memorial Day is this weekend and some people are looking forward to getting out of the house. Although Gov. Cuomo announced there will be no swimming, some places are allowing you to still have some fun in the sun. Here’s your list of New York City/New Jersey beaches that will be open and their guidelines:
Visitors can walk along the boardwalk on Coney Island, Brooklyn. No playing of sports will be allowed, and people must observe the social distancing rule. Fort Tilden in Queens is open with “limited recreational access,” no lifeguards on duty, and no swimming. The picnic area remains closed and no barbecues allowed. The same rule applies to Orchard Beach in the Bronx.
Ferry Island in Long Island is open to the public, all visitors can only travel by ferry and there are lifeguards on duty. Jones Beach in Long Island is only open to town residents, and there will be social distancing regulations. Non-residents who purchased a beach pass will be allowed on the beach during Memorial Day weekend. The Hamptons are open (to residents) and there will be lifeguards on duty and face masks will be required.
In New Jersey, Seaside Park will be open but only the boardwalk. It’s encouraged that visitors practice social distancing. Sandy Hook beach is open to everyone with social distancing rules in place.
