As Tekashi 6ix9ine prepares to finally get sentenced following a year behind bars, and testifying against those he used to call friends, the Brooklyn native is asking a judge for his forgiveness and hope for an early release.
Yesterday (Dec. 12), a letter written to Judge Paul Englemayer was released which he shows regret for his actions in the past, and asks for a new chance at freedom to take care of his family, and live life on a better path.
“As my sentencing date approaches, I am becoming more and more overwhelmed with emotions,” he wrote. “More than anything, I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to express my remorse to you, your Honor, over this situation.”
He later writes about how he hopes he can become a role model to kids around the world on the issues of gang life.
“I know that my life will never be the same but hopefully this change will be for the better because beyond all of this, I still consider myself a role model to millions of people as an artist, a celebrity and as a human being. I’m happy that the public was able to witness me dealing with the consequences of my actions because I feel like it sheds a light on what can come from gang affiliation.”
Other family members have joined in, writing their letters to the judge in hopes it can persuade Englemayer to release the 23-year-old within the next year. His mother, girlfriend, bodyguard, and at least 30 other people all handed in letters to the court.
“My son Daniel, while imprisoned, has provided for us financially, for my other son Oscar and also myself. As a single mother I raised my children with what God has given me the means to provide and showed them to walk as men down a righteous path. I thank God everyday for the blessings he’s given our family, but I still long for my son and his brother needs him too.”
She later wrote.
“I know him sometimes better than he ever knows himself. I assure you, that locking up my son Daniel Hernandez, is an injustice to my family , who relies on him for financial, emotional and physical support. It is an injustice to his daughter who depends on him and adores him. It is an injustice to the people who need his example to better their own lives.”
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, where the judge will decide whether he completedly his plea agreement sufficiently, and if he is to be released as early as before the new year.
