Alicia Keys wants to put her star power to good use. During an interview with Billboard, Alicia said she wants to use her platform to help stop racial injustice. “We are already seeing the blatant injustices that are going on around us. As an artist, I’m always thinking about how can I use my platform to further racial equity.”Alicia performed at the kickoff yesterday and made a huge announcement. The league will contribute a new $1 billion fund aimed at supporting Black businesses and communities, the article reports. When talking about the fund, Alicia said the money will empower Black America.“This fund is one of the answers and our goal is to empower Black America through investing in Black businesses, Black investors, institutions, entrepreneurs, schools, and banks in a way to create sustainable solutions."The fund came about as a way to “transform the protests and words of solidarity that have poured out in the past months into tangible action and support for the Black community.” Alicia doesn’t want it to be a one-time charitable donation, the goal is for it to grow. “The next steps are to reach out to different industries to invite them to invest in racial justice and create a multi-billion dollar endowment across business sectors,” Alicia said. As of now, other partners haven’t been disclosed. Additional partners and contributors beyond the NFL haven’t been disclosed, though the aim is to create a multi-sector contributor field for the fund.Take a look at her performance:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5a6zeArAio
