Now, this is good news!
Two months ago, video footage captured a white woman, Amy Cooper, straight-up lying to the police about a black man who was bird watching. The victim, Christian Cooper (no relation), captured the footage and was able to show millions of people how this white woman falsely accused him of trying to harm her life.
During the dispute back in May, Christian was explaining the rules of having a dog in that area of Central Park. He simply told her that she needed to put a leash on her dog and she refused and got upset when Christian gave her dog a dog treat.
NY Times reports Amy is facing criminal charges for filing a false report, which is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail. If convicted, she could receive a conditional discharge or be sentenced to community service/counseling instead of jail time.
The district attorney, Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said,
“We are strongly committed to holding perpetrators of this conduct accountable.”
Following the incident, Amy was fired from her job. She was given a desk appearance and is scheduled to be arraigned on October 14. She issued a public apology, admitted that she acted inappropriately.
