Ari Lennox, Wale & Rapsody React To Being Snubbed By An Award Show

Ari Lennox 2019 Soul Train Awards

Ari Lennox took overreacting to a new high when she literally cried to her fans on twitter over not winning the BET Soul Train Award for Album Of The Year. While her frustration is completely understandable her now deleted machine-gun styled tweets were a bit impulsive, I mean she even said that she’d “quit” music…

Simultaneously the Grammy nominations also hit the net, and while artist like Lizzo had a ton of nominations, there were some artist who were not so fortunate. Wale, for example took it to his Instagram to indirectly express his disappointment.

He also tweeted this:

Word on the street is that Wale’s sixth studio album Wow…That’s Crazy is cool, “On Chill”  does go hard, but maybe he missed the cut-off mark set by the Grammy Academy.

Rapsody was another rapper to reaction on social media about being snubbed.

Thank you for the LOVE you award me. I see you. The ones who lend me your ear, words, support. Every time. I rarely, if ever, show my cards or that I’m human when it comes to my music career. Feel like opening up some today, tho. Today…..disappointed. Yes. Frustrated…beyond. But, you have to tell yourself the good fight is never an easy one. And the people that are the faces of the purpose behind your art are what makes creating not empty: with awards. nominations, or none at all. Not to hold you, the acknowledgment for your craft indeed feels amazing!! I haven’t been nominated for much but what I have I’m thankful for. There’s so much power and weight in numbers, nominations and awards….we artist know what that does for our exposure; and for the many, validation. And you want people to continue to discover and play and be inspired by the music. That’s what I get excited about anyway. But, hey….we keep on creating. @freddiegibbs …you put out one of the best albums….to everyone nominated for anything congratulations….to all artist who create….keep the microphone, pens, visuals, instruments lit. Art is too important not to share. Mad love. ♥️

The Lack Of Female Rapper Nominees

Rapsody was not the only female rapper snubbed by the academy, in fact, the rap categories only had one female rapper nominated (Cardi B’s feature on Offset’s “Clout,” for Best Rap Performance). This year’s Grammy nominees did include more female artist than in the past, but unfortunately, they were not found in the hip-hop categories. This excluded acts like Megan Thee Stallion, Tierra Whack, and Doja Cat.
