Can you believe it’s been 17 years since Ashanti released her self-titled debut album?
On April 2nd, 2002 Grammy award winning singer/songwriter Ashanti released her debut album. The album ‘Ashanti’ debuted at number one on the Billboard top 200 charts. It’s also certified triple platinum, and was nominated for three Grammy awards. Nominations including Best New Artist, Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best Contemporary R&B album.
Ashanti also holds a ‘Guinness World Record’ title, as the “fastest selling debut female R&B artist in music history.” The singer took to her Instagram to send a special message to her fans, Murder Inc, and Def Jam. “Every year I become more grateful and humbled by the success, love and support of this album..”
