at Dulles International Airport in Virginia. She was charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and marijuana in the United States. The Justice Department wrote in a statement Emma had planned on giving the drug profit money to El Chapo. The ride-or-die wife also had to forfeit $1.5 million.
Authorities also believe Emma helped El Chapo escape a maximum Mexican prison in 2015. He climbed out of a tiny hole in his shower in his cell. He was found a little over six months later in 2016 by Mexican authorities. This was the second time El Chapo escaped prison over there.
After Chapo's 2016 arrest, a witness told U.S. authorities that Emma gave a Mexican official $2 million to oversee Guzman's transfer from one prison to another. According to U.S. attorneys, Emma did this to try to plan another escape. One year later, El Chapo was extradited to America. In 2019 he had a three-month trial and was sentenced to life, plus an additional 30 years. He also had to forfeit $12.6 billion.
