Bobby Shmurda is free from his contract with Epic Records.
The Brooklyn rapper shared the news with his followers. He said, “I JUST SIGNED MY RELEASE PAPERS ALSO JUS MADE AH MILLY TODAY.”
He first signed with them in 2014, but his music career was cut short when he was arrested that year on numerous charges, including conspiracy to commit murder and weapons and drug charges associated with GS9. In 2016, Bobby Shmurda pleaded guilty to murder conspiracy charges and accepted a 7-year deal that included time served. He was released from prison in 2021 and he’s on parole supervision until February 23, 2026.
A few weeks ago, Bobby put Epic on blast after begging to be let go. He sounded off in a social media post and said, “I got a 70-year-old lady running my label. I love her dearly but doesn’t want to let me go at alllllllllll no matter what I do. I’ve been signed to them since I was 19 I did six years in jail trying to get off this label before I came home.” He continued, “This is not a cry for help this is a message and understanding for my fans that they stopping my music and prolonging my career I’ve been holding s**t down doing everything on my own since I been home it’s been a year now I still feel like I’m in prison ???????”
Now that he’s finally free from Epic, fans could expect more music, possibly an album. During his rant a few weeks ago, he said his album is done. In the latest update on music, Bobby also announced he’s shooting his first “independence video” called “Getting ‘Em Back.’
