According to Rolling Stone, Bruno Mars announced yesterday (Oct. 13) that he and Anderson .Paak, known by the duo name Silk Sonic, will not submit their debut album An Evening With Silk Sonic for 2023 Grammy Award consideration.

“We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year,” Mars said. “We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party. Thank you for letting Silk Sonic thrive.”

Grammy nominations do not happen automatically. Records have to submitted, usually by the artist’s record label, and if the artist does not want their music submitted it becomes withdrawal.

The album’s lead single “Leave the Door Open” has already won four Grammy Awards this year, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. They also performed singles “777” and “Hot Music” from the album at the ceremony. Although the album was released in November 2021, it was expected to be 2023’s top contender for Album of the Year.

“Andy and I, and everyone that worked on this project, won the moment the world responded to ‘Leave The Door Open.’ Everything else was just icing on the cake,” he said. “We thank the Grammys for allowing us to perform on their platform, not once but twice, and awarding us at last year’s ceremony. We’d be crazy to ask for anything more. Thank you to everyone that supported this project and championed it.”

According to reports, other contenders for the 2023 Album of the Year are most likely to include Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Adele, Harry Styles, and Taylor Swift.

The 65th annual Grammy Awards is set to be held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023. Nominations will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
