This is a sticky situation.
Rihanna is definitely caught between a rock and a hard place having to take legal action against her own dad.
Earlier this year, we reported that she was suing her father over using the Fenty name. Although it’s his last name, he doesn’t own the rights to it.
Court documents now reveal that Mr. Fenty had big dreams of launching his own reality show. Reported on The Blast, he had his heart set on becoming famous with the show.
He claims that he was using the name “Fenty” before Riri since he launched his entertainment company in 2015. “Fenty Beauty” was launched in 2017.
He also claims that his daughter doesn’t own any trademarks for “Fenty.” The article also says that he claims “nobody is confused by him using the name ‘Fenty’ and wants out of the case ASAP.”
However, in 2018, Mr. Fenty tried to trademark the phrase “Fenty” for a line of boutique hotels, but it was shot down by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
Rihanna says even though he’s her dad, he doesn’t have the authority to act on her behalf.
