Back in 2001 when Aaliyah passed away in a tragic plane crash, the legendary singer was in a relationship with music mogul Damon Dash, Jay-Z’s former manager and business partner. While the couple only dated for a year, Aaliyah’s presence continues to linger in Dame Dash’s life and affected him negatively until he met his current girlfriend Raquel.
On a recent episode of Growing Up Hip-Hop, Dame’s girlfriend/producer Raquel Horn and son Boogie (Damon Dash II) talked about the good times with the late Aaliyah.
Dame went on to say that after Aaliyah passed away he felt as though he would never find a love like that again.
“That was love. And when she passed, I never thought I would ever get that feeling again. I got that feeling again with Raquel.“…”It’s funny. I would be talking to Raquel and her record would come on, It would always be like validation.”
Dame Dash says when they would talk about late Aaliyah, a butterfly would appear or lightening bolts would go off. They always feel like that is Aaliyah communicating to them or her spirit. Raquel also says she has conversations with Aaliyah, “I ask Aaliyah for advice and she usually answers.”
Dame Dash and Raquel Horn have been dating since 2015. They refer to each other as fiancée’s. Before that, Dash was married to designer Rachel Roy, together they have two children. Boogie, Dash’s son is from a previous relationship with Linda Williams.
