David McAtee, A Black Business Owner Was Shot and Killed By Police In Louisville

On Monday, (June 1st) another unarmed black man was killed by the police. David McAtee, the owner of YaYa’s BBQ, in Louisville, Kentucky was shot and killed by the police after shots rang out from the parking lot where his business is located. 

According to reports, police and soldiers fired back at the unidentified suspects around 12:15 a.m. McAtee’s mother, Odessa Riley, stated that her son was a pillar of the community. “My son was a good son. All he did on that barbecue corner is try to make a dollar for himself and his family,” she continued. “ And they came along and they killed my son.” 

A crowd protested while grieving the death of McAtee as they gathered on the corner on 26th and Broadway.  The people of the community spoke highly of the business owner. 

David James, Louisville Metro Council President said, “He’s just a good, decent person. He believes in this neighborhood. He loves his city, loves his neighborhood, loves to cook food, loves to keep people happy with his sense of humor. He’s just a great guy.” 

David McAtee was identified by his nephew. He was 53 years old. The incident is currently under investigation by both state and local police.
