Eric Garner’s mother, Gwen Carr, is reliving her nightmare again through the death of George Floyd.

It has been nearly six years since Garner was put in a chokehold by a New York City police officer, where he was gasping for air and uttered his last words, “I Can’t Breathe,” and now the same thing has happened to George Floyd.

Carr along with Rev. Al Sharpton spoke with Floyd’s family, “I feel the pain and hurt from George’s family and my whole heart goes out to them. As I was talking to them, I relived what happened to Eric, and tears overwhelmed me,” she continued. “I will work with NAN and Rev. Sharpton and supporters of George Floyd as we fight for accountability and justice.”

On Monday, May 25th,2020, Floyd was arrested and later died after Minneapolis police officer, Derek Chauvin had his knee pinned on Floyd’s neck. After the video of Floyd’s death went viral, the four police officers involved were fired and Minneapolis Mayor, Jacob Frey has called for criminal charges to be brought against Chauvin.
