January 26 will never be the same for many people. Millions of fans continue to mourn the tragic and horrible death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and the seven other innocent passengers.

Vanessa Bryant filed a lawsuit against the helicopter company, Island Express, for an undisclosed amount as well as punitive damages for reckless endangerment. The day of the accident, heavy fog in California halted nearly all of the aircraft in the area but the pilot on Kobe’s plane, Ara George, was given clearance.

Reported on The Jasmine Brand, the Altobelli and Mauser families also filed wrongful death lawsuits. Their allegations against Island Express, written in court documents include:

“[Island Express] negligently and carelessly breached its duty to own, lease, manage, maintain, control, entrust, charter and operate the helicopter in question in a reasonable manner.”

The tragedy caused a great deal of physical, emotional and mental pain as well.

Vanessa recently celebrated what would have been her and Kobe’s 19th wedding anniversary.
