This is good news and long overdue!
Cyntoia Brown, a 31-year-old who was sentenced to life at 16 will finally be free. Many people would argue that she shouldn’t have been put away in the first place!
When she was 16 she was forced into sex trafficking by a pimp named “Kut Throat” and had a bad encounter with a customer seeking to pay for sex. Brown became fearful when he showed her his guns and ended up shooting him when she saw him reach for it.
Brown was tried as an adult and has been fighting for her freedom ever since. High profile celebs like Rihanna and Kim Kardashian begged to get her out on social media. Earlier this year she was granted clemency.
Her official release date is August 7th! A GoFundMe page was set up to help her get on her feet.

“I am thankful for all the support, prayers, and encouragement I have received. We truly serve a God of second chances and new beginnings. The Lord has held my hand this whole time and I would have never made it without Him. Let today be a testament to His Saving Grace.” -Cyntoia Brown Cyntoia should have never served one day in prison. Nevertheless, we thank God for her clemency and the fierce organizing power of Black women that God used to grant Cyntoia clemency. Keep praying for Cyntoia and all of the other women who are locked behind cages for the same reason.
