Issa Rae made fans of her hit HBO show Insecure upset when they learned that Jay Ellis who plays Issa’s ex-boyfriend Lawrence won’t be appearing on season three of the show.
Her reasoning is simple. People grow apart, and Rae wanted to keep the show as natural, and true-to-life as possible as explained during an interview with Vulture.
“We want to stay as true to life as possible,” she said. “They had a great conversation at the end of season two and it was just about like, hey, she’s moving on Daniel, sometimes we have those conversations. You never see the exes again. And it’s okay! You gotta explore life without Lawrence.”
Fans weren’t exactly excited about the news, so the decided to start a petition and website to bring the character back to the show. Issa Rae seemed shocked about the dedication of the show’s most loyal fans.
Funds. (And a website). #WeLoveLawrenceToo
