Kelly Rowland gets candid about her estranged relationship with her father.
Kelly and her father have been reunited for 5 years now. During a recent interview, she opens up about the power of forgiveness. “I was angry at him, I was disappointed in him, I had all those feelings of abandonment,” Rowland said. “I didn’t know why he wasn’t there.”
She continued, “I think as a kid you just feel like if they’re not there, they don’t want to be. So that’s what I felt, and that feeling sucked.”
The singer says her father was not allowed backstage while she was on tour with Destiny’s Child. “I didn’t want to deal with that at the time. And now that I think about it, I’m like, ‘Ugh. That must have felt terrible’ because here he is watching his daughter and he doesn’t get to be a part of that.”
