Lil Wayne did something special for the late legend we lost this month, DMX.

Weezy performed at Trillerfest in Miami over the weekend. Before Wayne performed “Uproar,” he paid homage to DMX. Swizz Beatz produced the song, so it was only right. Wayne spoke to the crowd with a blunt in his hand. He talked about his younger days going on tour with the Ruff Ryders. Wayne said,

“So back then, we went on this tour called the ‘Cash Money Ruff Ryder’ tour. See, being from New Orleans, it’s so far away from New York and Cali and sh*t like that we didn’t know if it was real when we [saw] it on TV, the New York guys the LA people…” Then Weezy went on to say how he “fell in love with” DMX and spoke on his first time meeting him.

“So when we saw DMX, we all fell in love,” But when I got on tour with him, now you in the hotel lobby, you in the backstage, you run across the n*gga, and he say something to you.” He continued,

“And when you see this n*gga talk like how he rap and you see this n*gga is what he is, and you see this nigga got a zillion dogs with him, then a zillion dogs with him, it’s impossible not to be obsessed, infatuated motherf*cking impressed, whatever. Ladies and gentlemen, please make some noise for the late great DMX!”

Wayne also spoke on how X’s death hit Swizz Beatz hard. He said Swizz “would never let a Lil Wayne album come out without a beat on that motherf*cker from him.” Take a look at a screengrab, shared by Elliot Wilson:

Swizz Beatz shared the special moment on his social media. Swizz and DMX had a close bond and gave X a lot of credit for his career. Pitchfork reports, Swizz Beatz, says he’s in the position he’s in today because of DMX.

Swizz’s first placement in the music industry was his beat for DMX’s “Ruff Ryders Anthem,” released in 1998. Swizz said, “I’m in position because of DMX. My brother was one of one. None before, none to come. He was the most loyal person I’ve ever known…. You couldn’t buy DMX. His loyalty, who he loved, was never for sale.”

DMX passed away on April 9 after a heart attack triggered by a drug overdose. His legacy will live on FOREVER!
