This is a major milestone for Los Angeles, California!
Mayor Eric Garcetti announced during a news conference yesterday (April 29), that all city residents, regardless of having symptoms are eligible for free COVID-19 testing. Garcetti urged everyone to get swabbed, reminding everyone that people can asymptomatic carriers. This is a major breakthrough and the first state to do this!
Garcetti’s great news comes after L.A. County saw a grim large increase in new Coronavirus cases, reported on LA Times. Despite the number of increased cases, public health department director Barbara Ferrer said: “the county’s rate of hospitalizations and the percentage of people testing positive for the virus have remained fairly stable.”
The article also states that prisons have more access to COVID-19 tests now, especially since the cases began to spread rapidly in some facilities.
