Man That Attacked Dave Chappelle Charged For Attempted Murder For Unrelated Stabbing

There’s been an update on the case of the man that attacked Dave Chappelle during a comedy show earlier this month.

Isiah Lee, 23, has been charged with attempted murder for an unrelated stabbing in that took place in December. According to a news source, he faces one count of attempted murder; the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday (May 19).

Lee allegedly stabbed his roommate during a fight at a transitional housing apartment on Dec. 2, 2021. Dave getting attacked on stage helped authorities identify Lee as the person who allegedly stabbed their roommate, who reported the incident to the police.

Lee pleaded not guilty to the charge and is scheduled to return to court on June 2.

On Tuesday (May 3) night, Dave performed at the Hollywood Bowl for the Netflix is a Joke: The Festival event. After he finished his act, as he was exiting the stage, Lee, who was part of the audience, jumped on the stage and tackled Dave to the ground. Police discovered Lee had a replica handgun that had a knife blade. The motive remains unclear. Lee was arrested and taken to a hospital for medical treatment. His bail was $30,000.

Lee was charged with battery, possession of a weapon with intent to assault, unauthorized access to the stage area during a performance, and commission of an act that delays the event or interferes with the performer. He pleaded not guilty. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office decided not to pursue felony charges against Lee. In a statement to the outlet, DA spokesperson Greg Risling said, “After reviewing the evidence, prosecutors determined that while criminal conduct occurred, the evidence as presented did not constitute a felony.”

Looks like Lee had other legal troubles, and karma caught up to him.
