Five people were killed and eight others were injured, including two police officers, following a shooting Monday (April 10) morning at Old National Bank in downtown Louisville.

According to Louisville Metro Police Department, officers responded to “an active aggressor” around 8:30 a.m. at the bank which is located in the Preston Pointe building near Louisville Slugger Field and Waterfront Park.

During a press conference, Louisville Metro Police Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey said the first responding officers arrived to hear the sound of gunshots still firing inside. In a video, posted by WLKY, you can hear the sounds of several gunshots and someone yelling “active shooter at the bank!” The suspected shooter, who police claimed to be either a current or former employee at Old National Bank, was “dead on the scene.” The eight people injured were taken to University of Louisville Hospital, two are in critical condition. One of those two is a police officer who is currently in surgery, Humphrey added.

“Once again, our nation mourns after a senseless act of gun violence – Jill and I pray for the lives lost and impacted by today’s shooting,” President Joe Biden said in a statement on Twitter following the deadly shooting. “Too many Americans are paying for the price of inaction with their lives. When will Republicans in Congress act to protect our communities?”
