Forever first lady, Michelle Obama, Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion and actress La La Anthony turned heads in West Hollywood this week during an unexpected girls’ night out that bridged the worlds of politics and hip-hop.
The trio was photographed dining Thursday at Darling, a popular Los Angeles-area restaurant, showcasing a growing bond between the former first lady and the Houston rapper.
The outing highlighted three distinct approaches to fall fashion as the women arrived for their evening engagement. Obama opted for a polished yet relaxed ensemble, pairing a navy-and-white textured jacket featuring fringe detailing with classic blue jeans and a braided ponytail. Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Pete, wore a striking burgundy two-piece set with a cropped top and matching capri pants, while Anthony chose an edgy oversized black leather coat over a Balenciaga T-shirt and distressed denim.

In August, Megan appeared on the “IMO” podcast, which Obama co-hosts with her brother, Craig Robinson. During that candid conversation, the former first lady noted a personal connection between the entertainer and her own family, telling Megan that she reminded her of her youngest daughter, Sasha Obama. “You and Sasha have similar sass levels,” Obama said during the podcast, describing the rapper’s energy as feeling like family.
The rapper responded with enthusiasm, recalling how she became protective of Sasha after a “Saturday Night Live” performance, even instructing her personal security team to keep a close watch on the president’s daughter. Beyond the lighthearted comparisons, the women have previously bonded over the difficulties of living under constant public scrutiny. On the “IMO” podcast, Megan admitted she had faced periods where she avoided public outings entirely due to the pressure of her celebrity status.
Obama praised the rapper for her authenticity, noting how important it is for young Black women to see public figures who embrace their true selves rather than performing for others.
Anthony, a longtime friend to both the entertainment and sports worlds, rounded out the group as they enjoyed the private dinner. While the specific details of their conversation were not disclosed, the gathering represents a continuing trend of Obama engaging with prominent cultural figures to discuss wellness, confidence and identity.
The dinner comes as Megan Thee Stallion prepares for the next phase of her career, having recently announced that her upcoming album, “ACT III,” will be released via Interscope. The rapper has remained active in the political sphere as well, notably performing at a campaign rally for Vice President Kamala Harris in Atlanta earlier this year.
