This past week, there has been a video that has gone viral of over 1,600 inmates at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, NY, who have been without heat and hot water. This incident occurred during the time when the temperature dropped to as low at 3 degrees Fahrenheit. Many hip-hop stars are speaking up on their behalf.

This past Saturday (February 2nd), Meek Mill, T.I., and Mysonne along with many others, had all voiced their concerns about how these inmates are being treated at the facility. Mysonne took to his social media urging everyone call the Governor and Mayor offices to inform them of the inhumane treatment of the inmates. See video below.

Meek Mill also chimed in to talk about his experience while being locked up in jail for 5 months for a parole violation. See what he had to say below.

Since the videos of the inmates banging on the windows and of hip hop artists speaking up, Mayor Bill de Blasio sent hundreds of blankets, hand warmers, and generators over the prison. The Federal Bureau of Prisons said in a statement, “The facility is working to restore power as expeditiously as possible.” The power is expected to be restored on Monday.
