Did you know? May is mental health awareness month.

Method Man opened up about his well-being during an interview with Kevin Hart on his Gold Minds, comedy podcast. The Wu-Tang rapper revealed therapy played a major role in his healing process. Method Man admitted he was “in his own way.” He said,

I had to get out of my own way. I saw that I could not control the people around me, but I could control myself. One thing that stood out for me, when I was younger – basically being a little dirty kid with nothing, no control over where I lived, what I ate, where I slept. But I had these sports – football and lacrosse – there I had control and I was good at it.”

He continued: “So I needed those little moments where I need to be in control of what goes on in my life. I had to look myself in the mirror and say, ‘I’m tired of myself. I want better for me, I have more to contribute, and start there.’ Self-check, absolutely. If you don’t, sooner or later, somebody else is gonna check you.”

Over the years, mental health has been more talked about and pushed in society. Desiigner recently revealed he admitted himself to a mental health facility after he exposed himself on an airplane. He was charged with indecent exposure.

A few weeks after the April incident, the “Panda” rapper spoke out and said:

“Sorry I can’t promote it the way I like to cause I’m off the grid, but I just want to give you some new music while I take time away to become a better me. I’m going through a tough time right now but I won’t let my struggles define who I am. I will come back stronger and make more music that connects with all of you on a deeper level.”

He continued: “For those of you dealing with any mental health issues, it’s okay to ask for help.”
