An NYPD officer has been suspended without pay after a video of him yelling “Trump 2020” in a predominantly Black neighborhood goes viral.

The video was recorded by Brandon Hines and he stated that he heard a commotion and saw a bystander arguing with the police officer. “It wasn’t even about the ‘Trump 2020’, ‘I just went to make sure that person has another pair of eyes on them to make sure they’re safe.”

It has been reported that the unidentified officer suspension without pay was “effective immediately” and he is currently under investigation.

Mayor Bill De Blasio would also tweet about the situation, “Let me be clear: ANY NYPD officer pushing ANY political agenda while on duty will face consequences. We will act fast here, and this will not be tolerated.”

NYPD Commissioner Dermont Shea also issued a statement about the video saying that it was “one hundred percent unacceptable.” He continued, “Law Enforcement must remain apolitical, it is essential in our role to serve ALL New Yorkers regardless of any political beliefs. It is essential for New Yorkers to trust their police.”
