It’s been a LONG time coming!
The Flint, Michigan water crisis began on April 25, 2014.
Five years later, they will receive the federal funds that are rightfully theirs to improve the water system.
According to a report, the funding came from a $120 million federal and state loan that was given to Flint in 2017. This was under the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act of 2016.
Now that they have the funds to make the necessary changes, some of the improvements will include “the completion of a secondary water source pipeline, construction of a chemical feed building, water main and water meter replacement, water quality monitoring panel, and contingency service line replacement funding, among other projects.”
The problem won’t be 100 percent solved. They will still need $300 million in capital improvements over the next 20 years.
