R. Kelly’s lawyer wants everyone to know that the r&b singer is keeping his spirits up, although he is having a rough time adjusting to life in jail.

His lawyer Steve Greenberg gave a recent statement about Kelly’s status, while trying to bring in the petty party by immediately highlighting the fact he could not read to the Chicago Sun-Times.

“I’ve seen him get very emotional,” he said. “He’s dealing with a lot of stories that have been made up. He’s not a fighter. I’ve seen him cry when he talks about the situation.”

Later in the conversation, the singer known for hits such as “The World’s Greatest,” and “I Believe I Can Fly,” speaks about his spirituality in jail.

“He’s also a spiritual guy,” he said. “[He] has a Bible with him in his cell, but he can’t read it. It’s basically there for comfort… but he is receiving plenty of mail, which is 97{777fdfaf2b87555bdd1b94fe9616ada8edd2584063dcc78a8081abf6b97ce805} positive and he pores over it.”

Greenberg also says that Kelly is continuously in solitary confinement and is being moved from different cells due to his popularity.

R. Kelly is facing multiple federal charges including racketeering, child pornography, and obstruction of justice, as well as 11 counts of sexual abuse in Chicago. He has plead not guilty to both. The singer is also facing new charges in Minnesota for allegedly engaging in prostitution with an individual under the age of 18 but at least 16 years old and hiring, offering, or agreeing to hire someone in that age range for sexual penetration or sexual contact.
