Hurricane Dorian is a life-threatening tropical category five storm that hit the Bahamas hard.
According to a report, 20 people have died and people are struggling to get food, water, and shelter. It’s been called, “total devastation” on the island and will take billions of dollars to fix the land.
70 percent of the homes are underwater and it looks like a bomb hit the country, that’s how bad the damage is. “The Red Cross said more than 13,000 houses, or about 45{777fdfaf2b87555bdd1b94fe9616ada8edd2584063dcc78a8081abf6b97ce805} of the homes in Grand Bahama and Abaco, were likely severely damaged or destroyed, according to the Associated Press. The agency said some 62,000 people on the hard-hit islands are without clean drinking water, and U.N. officials said more than 60,000 will need food.”
People around the world have been doing random acts of kindness to help the people in the Bahamas. Take a look:
1. An anonymous man from Florida bought 100 generators to help the victims of the hurricane. According to a report, “His receipt read $49,285.70 and most of that came from paying $450 a pop for 100 generators. Peas, beans, coffee, salt, pepper and other essentials made up the rest of his mega purchase.” He wishes to not be named and wants the attention only on the people who need help.
2. A 6-year-old boy from South Carolina used money that he saved for his birthday trip to Disney World to help the hurricane victims. It was important for him to help people to have food, water, and a place to stay. “He stood on the highway holding two handcrafted signs to get the attention of people driving out of the city,” reported on USA Today. He helped over 100 people by giving them free hot dogs, snacks, and water. His birthday is on the 8th and he told the news he’ll celebrate when everyone is safely back home.

3. Disney Cruise Line announced that they’ll donate $1 million in cash to help the hurricane victims. The money will go to relief efforts as well.
4. A 4-year-old donated his entire piggy bank to help the victims. He wanted to help the kids in the Bahamas and supply them with toys.
