Rihanna fans have not given up on R9.

Rihanna promised a new album to her fans last year but things got put on hold while she dealt with her various business ventures. The Jasmine Brand reports Rihanna gave insight on the status of the album. She wants to use her voice in a way that has a purpose.

“What do I feel personally? What do I want to put out, and as an artist, how do I want to play it with my art? How do I want to interpret that? How do I want to reimagine it because it’s been so structured before?”

She went on to say that she just wants to have fun and use the music as her “outlet.”

“You do pop, you did this genre, you do that, you do radio, but now it’s just like, what makes me happy? I just want to have fun with music. Everything is so heavy. The world that we live in is a lot. It’s overwhelming every single day. And with the music, I’m using that as my outlet.”

Like most artists, the pandemic has put a halt on touring, performing at venues, and for some, pushing back their recording processes. Rihanna said she experienced some delay with production, which is another reason why things are taking time. None the less, she’s facing the challenge head-on.

“I want to go on tour but I can’t, so I’m stuck with music that I love, and now I’m trying to figure out how I can even create visuals to that. That’s a challenge as well. But I love challenges so, you know, I’m gonna get it done.”

Riri’s last album was her 2016 Anti. It topped the Billboard 200 charts at No. 1. Even though it’s been four years since the “Needed Me” singer dropped a project, she’s still topping the charts with features. Her recent collaboration with Party Next Door on “Believe” is a banger, and there’s also DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts” ft. Bryson Tiller, Kendrick Lamar’s “L.O.Y.A.L.T.Y,” N.E.R.D.S “Lemon” and more.
