GOOD NEWS! A surprise stimulus check is on the way for some Americans.

The not-so-good news is, it’s only being sent out in seven states. See the list + everything you need to know. Residents in California, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, and Tennessee qualify to receive money. Under the new law in those areas, the money is for low-income families and teachers.

Here is the breakdown of each state, via The U.S. Sun:

  • In California, you had to be a resident within the last six months in 2020, and you’ll receive a check for $1,100 if you earned less than $75,000 in 2020.
  • People living in Florida qualify if they’re teachers, principals, and first responders. They’ll receive $1,000 for their service during the pandemic. The same goes for Georgia residents, minus first responders.
  • In Maine, individuals that worked during the pandemic will get a $285 check. The article points out more than 500,000 employees are eligible. To qualify, one must have a Federal Adjusted Gross Income (FAGI) on their 2020 Maine income tax return of less than $75,000 (single or married filing separately), $112,500 (head of household), or $150,000 (married joint or surviving spouse).
  • Under the Maryland Relief Act of 2021, residents will receive their state-wide stimulus check only if the person filed their earned income tax credit. Those that qualify will get $300, and those with children will get $500.
  • In Michigan, teachers, full-time child care professionals will receive a $1,000 check if eligible.
  • Tennessee residents that are full-time public school employees will get a check for $1,000. Part-time workers will get $500.
