T-Pain opened up about being in a depressive state after Usher told him he “ruined” music.
In a newly released clip from Netflix’s This Is Pop, T-Pain shared a conversation with Usher, who confronted him on an airplane in 2013. Usher claimed that Pain “fucked up music.” Pain explained that he was on a flight to the BET Awards when a fight attendant woke him out his sleep and said that Usher was requesting to speak to him.
Pain noted that the conversation started off as a light conversation and progressed into Usher blaming him for the state of music at the time.
He says, “I didn’t understand. Usher was my friend… Did I f*ck up music? And that is the very moment—and I don’t think I realized this for a long time—that’s the very moment that started a four-year depression for me.”

Social media came to Pain’s defense after the clip went viral. One Twitter user writes, “T-Pain is one of the nicest most genuine people I’ve met and everyone at Adult Swim loves him, he’s family. Usher, Jay Z, Kanye, and Future (among many others) owe him an apology. He’s a pioneer and they weren’t ready. That’s on THEM.”
