Texas Senator Ted Cruz raised a lot of eyebrows in the last 48 hours.

Pictures surfaced of him and his family in an airport, heading to Cancun, Mexico. The timing for Cruz and his family to take a trip seems a little off, considering millions of people in Texas are dealing with the aftermath of the historic snowstorm, which caused major power outages, flooding, and some residents have no heat/water.

In a statement, Cruz confirmed he went to Mexico. He blamed his daughters and said he was “trying to be a good dad” and take them on vacation with friends. Take a look at a screenshot captured by the Sips and Spill blog:

“With school canceled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends. Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon,” he continued,

“My staff and I are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas. We want our power back, our water on, and our homes warm. My team and I will continue using all our resources to keep Texans informed and safe.”

Cruz was called out by journalist David Shuster, as all as regular people who saw him in the airport.

CNN reports there were over three million power outages. 13.5 million Texas residents are dealing with water disruptions, in some areas, the water is contaminated. Many homes are destroyed since they are not prepared for extreme cold weather.
