The Boondocks is BACK!
HBO Max just gave the green light for two new seasons of the popular show.
According to Deadline, the show will start during the fall season in 2020 with a 50-minute special. HBO will also have rights to all 55 episodes of the original Boondocks series original aired on Adult Swim.
Creator Aaron McGruder is returning to the show, which will be remade for today.
The new creation of the series will follow “Civil Rights Legend” Robert Freeman, also known as “Granddad” and his grandsons Huey and Riley as they moved to a suburban community of Maryland, which was taken over by Uncle Rukus.
“There’s a unique opportunity to revisit the world of The Boondocks and do it over again for today,” McGruder said, “It’s crazy how different the times we live in are now – both politically and culturally – more than a decade past the original series and two decades past the original newspaper comic. There’s a lot to say and it should be fun.”
The original show featured topics such as the trial of R. Kelly, rap music, imagining the return of Martin Luther King, and more.
