Sold!

Someone purchased The Notorious B.I.G’s crown from a 1997 “King Of New York” photoshoot. It was sold at an auction for $594,750. The plastic crown was originally bought for $6.

Brooklyn based photographer Barron Claiborne put the crown up for sale. He’s the photographer that shot the KONY photo for Rap Pages magazine. Claiborne said without Biggie, the crown would be worthless.

“This crown is a novelty item; I bought it at a place on Broadway called Gordon’s. Without Biggie, the crown would not be worth [six figures]. I only paid six bucks for it.”

The crown was originally going to be sold for $200,000. Claiborne went on to tell the news that he always thought Biggie was a king.

Hip Hop-n-More reports some of the proceeds will be donated to charities including New York’s Queens Public Library Foundation, which coordinates hip hop community programs.
