Troy Ave is trying to put the pieces of his life back together following two unfortunate incidents that almost took his life and took the life of his friend Ronald “Banga” McPhatter.

Back in May 2016, an encounter between Troy Ave and podcaster Taxstone caused a shooting at Irving Plaza minutes before T.I. was set to headline the event that was to be streamed on TIDAL.

Video footage showed the Brooklyn rapper pulling the trigger, although he claims it doesn’t give the full story. He sat down with our own Lisa Evers to give his side of the story, and an update on his health since the incident, along with another attempt at his life during Christmas.

“I wear bulletproof vests,” he said. “You see I had to take off my vest before we sat down here. But I’ve just been through so much, I’m not letting nobody kill me. Nobody’s taking my life. I’m going in just to build on my dream and I’m like, ‘Wow. I’m in New York City. Tip’s got a show. T.I.’s got a show. I’ma come out.”

Out on bail, he is now facing 20 years for attempted murder and weapons possession charges.

He currently has a brand new album titled Dope Boy Troy.
