For the week ending on May 23rd, 2019 Tyler, The Creator’s latest album, IGOR debuts at No. 1. This is an impressive follow up to the young rapper’s previous album Flower Boy that debuted at No. 2 a week after its release.

According to Hip Hop Numbers, Tyler is the first rapper in history to go No. 1 with an album he produced and arranged by himself with no co-production or co-producer credit at all. Shortly after the news broke out Tyler tweeted, “honestly didn’t think people would enjoy this album based on a lot of thing, so again, thank you, i mean it”. Although IGOR is entirely self produced, it includes a number of collaborations with artists such as Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Solange, Kanye West, CeeLo Green, and Pharrell Williams just to name a few.

With 164,866 total album equivalent units, 74,052 pure albums sales and a streaming count of 122,858,894, IGOR outsold Flower Boy by roughly 4,000 album equivalent units, states Kyle Eustice of HipHopDX. Shortly ahead of DJ Khaled’s Father of Asahd that debuted at No. 2, Tyler also managed to beat hot new artists like DaBaby and Megan Thee Stallion for the race to the No. 1 spot with DaBaby’s Baby On Baby currently at No. 7 and Megan Thee Stallion’s Fever at No. 10.

Post No.1 news release,Tyler also tweeted, “alot alot of effort put into this. not that that should dictate if people like it or not but im happy all that time and attention paid off”. He appears to be very proud of the effort put into this album and is ecstatic about landing the No. 1 spot for the week. Tyler claims, “its gonna be next year and im gonna be promoting this album still.”
