On Friday, August 23rd, 2019, a special prosecutor, Dan Webb, was appointed to Jussie Smollett’s case to find out why the Chicago state attorney dropped all against Smollett. Back in January, Smollett stated that he was a victim of a racist and homophobic attack.

If Webb, who is a former U.S. Attorney, determines that the charges against Smollett shouldn’t have been dropped, there is a possibility that the case could be reinstated or new charges could be brought.  In a statement, Webb said, “I intend to expedite everything. But the facts will take me where they take me. I’m going to start fresh and see where it goes.”
