Why Breonna Taylor’s Death Is Sparking National Outrage

Black and brown people shouldn’t have to live in fear of their lives being taken away from the police.

This is the same story for Breonna Taylor, 26, unarmed and black. Back on March 13, Louisville police were executing a search warrant to enter Breonna Taylor’s home, however, the police were searching in the wrong home.

The authorities were investigating two men who they believed were selling drugs out of a house that was far from Ms. Taylor’s home, NY Times reports. However, a judge still signed a warrant allowing the police to search Ms. Taylor’s residence because the police said they believed that one of the suspects used her home to receive packages.

Under the circumstances of the investigation, the judge permitted the police to enter “without identifying themselves.” When they entered Breonna’s home, her boyfriend who thought an intruder was breaking in, fired the first shot which caused police to shoot several shots, killing Breonna.

Breonna was an EMT worker with no criminal history or any drugs in the home. Her life was taken away at the hands of police and no justice has been made as of yet. Protestors across the nation have been marching in her memory as well as Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd.

Tensions are extremely high as people who are with the black community are demanding change.
