The former wife Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s first black president has passed away at the age of 81.
According to a report, she has been dealing with an illness which has had her in and out of the hospital for most of the calendar year.
An icon herself, along with her husband Nelson her presence signified strength and change to South Africa during the years of his imprisonment until the end of apartheid and his rise to the presidency to the area.
She was married to Nelson for 38 years, 27 of those years while he was imprisoned. They had divorced n 1996 and are survived by their two daughters together.
